Jet Reports with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Jet Reports with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

First Edition

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by many sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution, manufacturing and other business functions running day in and day out. While still available as an on-premises application, it is most commonly implemented under a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model in the Microsoft Azure cloud.

While Business Central includes a number of different reporting tools “out of the box” which cover a number of different reporting needs, they are usually not intended for end-users to quickly and easily modify or they are very limited in scope. To meet different reporting needs, users must therefore learn several reporting tools and run reports from different areas of the system.

There are multiple third-party reporting tools available which allow reports to be generated from Business Central, including Power BI and Jet Reports amongst others. It is the second of these, Jet Reports, which I will be covering in this book.

Jet Reports allows reports to be created from any part of Business Central, allowing users to create both financial and operation reports. In addition, it allows for reports to be created for any extension added to the system.

This book was written using Jet Reports, version 22; some elements may change between versions, more commonly the installation process, but the functions for building reports rarely change so the book should remain mainly accurate as insight Software release further versions.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow Fourth Edition

Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow

Fourth Edition

Microsoft Dynamics GP is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by tens of thousands of sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution and manufacturing functions running day in and day out.

Dynamics GP includes a variety of tools and modules to assist in controlling processes and data; one of the major modules for this was the Dynamics Workflow module. However, this module had major flaws which very much limited its usefulness; it was slow, clunky and difficult to install, configure and maintain.

As of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 this Workflow module has been replaced with a new one; Workflow 2.0. This new module lives entirely within Dynamics GP itself, thereby removing the dependency on SharePoint; this has the dual benefit of making Workflow 2.0 easy to setup, configure workflow processes and maintain on an ongoing basis.

This book, the fourth edition, introduces the basic concepts of workflow as well as how a project implementing workflow might be run, before moving onto the Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow module.

The next section of the book covers the creation of both simple and complex document workflows, a non-document workflow and how users interact with the workflow process, including email notifications and actions.

The last five chapters are aimed at more technical users and cover adding additional table joins, customizing the notification emails by adding extra fields and deploying and securing Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Microsoft Dynamics GP is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by tens of thousands of sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution and manufacturing functions running day in and day out.

While Microsoft Dynamics GP includes a number of different reporting tools “out of the box” which cover a number of different reporting needs, they are usually not intended for end-users to modify and provide different reporting meaning users need to learn several reporting tools and run reports from different areas of the system.

One of these reporting tools is Management Reporter which was intended for financial reporting and was very popular with accountants for self-serving their financial reports. In 2016 Microsoft made two announcements; development on Management Reporter would cease, with the product being retired in a few years, and that they had gone into partnership with the company producing Jet Reports.

Partners and clients have started making moves to transition from Management Reporter to Jet Reports; unfortunately, there is no migration tool so reports need to be recreated in Jet Reports.

As well as a replacement for Management Reporter, Jet Reports allows a much wider range of reports to be produced; it allows not only financial reporting, but also operational reporting.

Implementing the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client Second Edition

Implementing the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client Second Edition

Second Edition

Microsoft Dynamics GP is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by tens of thousands of sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution and manufacturing functions running day in and day out.

Microsoft Dynamics GP has traditionally been accessed via client software installed directly on the user’s computer, as a published application or remote desktop to a terminal server. A few years ago the Web Client for Microsoft Dynamics GP was introduced.

Originally the web client used Silverlight and was supported with a limited number of browsers, but as of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 has been redeveloped into fully-responsive HTML5 meaning it can now be accessed using any browser and on any form factor device, from desktop PCs to notebooks to tablets and to cell phones.

Microsoft Dynamics GP in the web client can be provided in a number of ways including self-hosted, partner-hosted or cloud-hosted.

Implementing the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client First Edition

Implementing the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client

First Edition

Microsoft Dynamics GP is a popular enterprise resource planning (ERP) application used by tens of thousands of sites around the world to keep the accounting, financial, distribution and manufacturing functions running day in and day out.

To do this Microsoft Dynamics GP was accessed via client software installed directly on the user’s computer, or a terminal server. Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 saw the introduction of a second type of client with which Microsoft Dynamics GP could be accessed; the web client. The installation of the web client is a little more complex than that of the classic desktop client.

This book provides guidance for the implementation of the Microsoft Dynamics GP web client with step-by-step guides, illustrations and links to useful resources.
